A Head Cover
You may wonder why turbans are being worn in a Kundalini yoga class.
In many spiritual traditions it is recommended to wear a head cover to protect the crown chakra from outside interference. The head cover does not have to be a turban – but there is a whole technology of how the turban works – and also it tends to stay in place when practising yoga postures! Ideally for practice, your head cover should be of natural fibre cloth (e.g., cotton, silk) and white.

Under the turban the hair must be clean, untangled and tight in a knot ( rishi knot) to the crown chakra close to the fontanel for women and in front of it for men. The fontanel, Tenth gate or 7th chakra is known as the solar center and knotting your hair at this particular spot focuses the energy. The rishi knot comes from the rishi, the vedic term for an enlightened person who realizes the supreme truth through meditation.
The technology of it applies a craniosacral pressure giving the person a sense of calm and focus. The pressure of the turban also has an influence on the pattern of blood flow in the brain. Usually white turbans are worn while teaching to expand the aura.
Some 3HO members wear turbans all the time either because they like the effect it has on them
or because they are following a Sikh path.
Wearing it is like crowning the divine in you, and makes your commitment to the spiritual path evident to those around you.
