40 day study of Japji
In preparation for the Online European Yoga Festival 2021, we hosted a 40 day series, lead by teachers around the world, to take us to a deeper understanding of Japji - Pauri by Pauri. This Festival, with the theme of Humility, we returned back to basics, and will use this as the basis for our deep meditation day in the Festival.
One Teaching Per Day
Day 1 - INTRODUCTION
Shiv Charan Singh, an unassuming and authentic spiritual teacher, Scottish by birth, is the founding director of the International Karam Kriya School (1996). Through the philosophy and practice of Karam Kriya, Shiv Charan Singh is deeply committed to guiding students in their spiritual growth, so they can bring spiritual awareness into their everyday lives and develop their full potential as human beings – to become the best they can be.
In his mid-twenties he began studying Kundalini Yoga and Sikh Dharma with Siri Singh Sahib Bhai Sahib Harbhajan Singh Khalsa, the religious leader and founder of Sikh Dharma in the West.
Shiv Charan Singh continues to develop and evolve the Spiritual Science of Karam Kriya – a study which, through applied Number Awareness, provides a tool for understanding the harmony and inter-relatedness of all things.He is an author of several books and articles on different aspects of spiritual life including human communication and the mystery of numbers.
His warmth and compassion have generated a community spirit at the school which reaches out to the community regardless of age and background, and attracts people from all over the world.
Day 2 - Mul Mantra
Ravijit Kaur is a student, a Kundalini Yoga and Karam Kriya Trainer. She has studied with Shiv Charan Singh since 2008 and it is above all thanks to him that she rediscovered the path and the poetry of Sikh Dharma. Deeply transformed by Guru Nanak’s Japji, she translated the original text into italian. She studied cultural anthropology in Bologna, where she obtained a first degree with a thesis in classical world religions and a second degree with research focused on the contemporary transmission of oriental philosophies. In 2016, with her partner Luca she founded Nabhi – Centro della Terra, a beautiful place in the italian Appennines dedicated to the practice, the study and the promotion of disciplines of awareness and art, with the aim of offering a space of conscious life style and dialogue between nature, human and spirit.
Day 3 - Meditation
Originally from Cairo, Shama is Egypt’s first Kundalini Yoga Trainer. In Arabic ‘Shams’ means sun and ‘Shamza’ means candle - put them together and her name means: ‘the one who shines the light of her inner soul.’
Since the age of 25, Shama has been teaching Kundalini Yoga in Egypt. She has taken the teachings to Jordan, Kuwait, Palestine, Dubai, Morroco and Tunis, not only teaching to the more affluent but also to refugee communities in remote villages in the Arab region.
She is currently qualifying for Lead Trainer in the Aquarian Trainer’s Academy.
As a young artist and entrepreneur, Shama is passionate about creating communities through art; blending sound, colour and words to form life-long relationships.
Day 4 - Pauri 1
I hope to share and uplift through my humble contribution, so that there is an awareness that celebrates the profound nature of Sikh yogic sciences.
Guvinder Singh Akālī is currently an MA student at the SOAS University London, his research is focused on the origins of Sikh Yogic & Meditation traditions.
At the age of 16, on a trip to India, Guvinder Singh came under the tutelage of a Nihang elder from the Singh/Sher Jogi order, a line of yogic practises called “Shabad Kriya Yoga” that finds its origins with Guru Gobind Singh.
Guvinder Singh’s research delves into the corresponding nature of the 5 elements and their association with conciousness, honing in on the teachings of reverse metaphysics at the heart of the Sikh Tradition.
Day 5 - Pauri 2
Angad Kaur is a KRI Professional Trainer and has been running Level 1 courses in England since 2009. She is a trainer and consultant in Karam Kriya, the applied science of spiritual numerology, which she combines with Kundalini Therapy, which integrates Kundalini Yoga with proven systems of holistic medicine. Angad also serves as a Sikh Chaplain providing support through physical and mental health challenges, terminal illness, death and dying alongside teaching classes in outreach environments including hospitals, psychiatric units, recovery and refugee programs. She is a passionate student of Gurbani and maintaining the mystical dimension of the teachings.
Day 6 - Pauri 3
Ek Ong Kaar Khalsa Michaud is a researcher of Gurbani and Sikh history who has published English translations of the Sikh sacred writings. She has studied Kundalini Yoga since 1991, became a Kundalini Yoga teacher in 1996 and has served as a Kundalini Yoga Teacher Trainer since 2008. Ek Ong Kaar Kaur currently lives in Plano, Texas, USA with her husband Dr. Patrick Michaud. Her current focus is being the Director of Spiritual Studies for Ik Jot Foundation, a small non-profit dedicated to studying the Siri Guru Granth Sahib from an interfaith perspective. Day 7 - Pauri 4
My name is Bridgid Hardhyan Hess. I currently live in Oxfordshire UK, but have lived in Scotland, Zimbabwe and South Africa. I am a Narrative Therapist and love walking alongside people as they journey on towards their inner light. I also teach on a graduate counselling programme in Geneva. My Kundalini yoga journey has taken me on trainings in Scotland, South Africa and England. I come from a Christian tradition and am a practicing Quaker. I love bridging gaps and spaces and connecting people in ways so that we can all belong.
Day 8 - Pauri 5
Singh Sahib Jujhar Singh Khalsa is a UK-born Sikh of Punjabi heritage. He has had the blessing of travelling the world sharing Sikh heritage, technology, and experience with children and young adults at camps, workshops, and retreats for over 20 years. He has been enriched by many Sikh traditions, Damdami Taksal, Nihang Panth, Nanaksar, GNNSJ as well as Western Sikh Dharma. He brings a diverse and passionate perspective to the Guru.
He was taught Gurmukhi and Gurbani by Giyani Bharpoor Singh of Sato Gali Taksaal . Jujhar Singh is continuing to learn traditional Keertan from Harjinder Singh Lallie and Kundalini Yoga from SS Chioneso Kulwant Kaur Khalsa. He has been practicing Kundalini Yoga for over 15 years and is a Level 1 teacher.
Aside from the Guru, Jujhar’s other loves in life are his beloved wife Dr. Harsimrren Kaur, his two children, his dog Akaal Kaur and software engineering.
Day 9 - Meditation
Sat Kirtan is the creator of the NineMinMax® Business Yoga method and the author of the book ´Bye Bye Stress in 9 Minutes or Less´. She began her career in the financial industry and worked her way up the ladder. Although she was successful in her career, due to the high levels of stress she developed a chronic illness.
After suffering for three years, she came to the conclusion that she needed to transform her life, in order to heal. She needed to become the leader of her life, living from her heart. It was through her conscious commitment to the Kundalini Yoga practice, her illness disappeared after three weeks. ‘If I knew then what I know now it would have made life much easier for me.’
The more Kundalini Yoga she practiced, the more she realized her souls mission is to help people stay relaxed in the unrelaxed world.

A linguist and a talented musician, Satwant brings her intuitive, enthusiastic grasp of language and beautiful singing voice to her mantra music, which she has recorded, and to her teaching.

Day 16 - Pauri 16
Upon hearing the Jap Ji for the very first time in this life, I wanted these unfamiliar and yet strangely familiar sounds never to stop again. They felt like medicine. Sitting on the yoga mat deeply touched, I was soaking up the soothing vibration of these healing sounds like the desert earth the rain. For the last 18 years, Japji has been one of my best friends.
I am living with my family in South-Germany at Yogahouse Prasaad, I am a Kundalini Yoga Teacher Trainer, Karam Kriya Consultant, Permaculturist in self-training and love studying music, dance and Gurmukhi.
Day 17 - Pauri 17
Sat Hari Singh has been a devoted student of Yogi Bhajan for decades and until this day. He is one of the pioneers of Kundalini Yoga and Sikh Dharma in Germany and Europe and a dedicated spiritual teacher and teacher trainer.
He has been a main initiator of dharmic projects and enterprises like Yogi Tea Europe, Golden Temple Teahouse, the German Kundalini Yoga Festival and the newly launched Guru Ram Das Aquarian Academy.

Day 18 - Pauri 18
Siri Sant Kaur is a level one and two teacher. She has been practising for the last 20 years mostly in a very practical way. Raising two kids, running a business, embracing cancer and now being the CEO of 3HO Europe.She is originally from France and has lived abroad and throughout Europe all of her adult life.Her passion is the Sangat, the group spirit and the oneness of it.
Her understanding of the scriptures is very often linked to the experience she pursues with life.It is said there are two ways of learning, study and experience, she is more inclined to the second.But the hand of the Guru leads the way for all.
Day 19 - Pauri 19
Amrit Singh has been studying Kundalini Yoga for over 25 years. His foundation was laid in Germany in the mid 90s. Amrit Singh then moved to India and dedicated his life’s work to help build and grow Miri Piri Academy in Amritsar for 20 years. He recently moved back to Germany and now teaches in several Teacher Training programs worldwide. He is a KRI certified Level 3 Professional Teacher Trainer.

Day 20 - Pauri 20
Sat Atma Kaur Khalsa fell for Kundalini Yoga in 1980. She has dedicated her life to living and spreading the teachings ever since. She is a KY teacher and teacher trainer. She is also a dedicated Sat Nam Rasayan healer and teacher. In 2017 Sat Atma started a retreat center in the south of France in the wild and beautiful mountains ‘Les Cévennes’. Day 21 - Pauri 21
Jai Ram Kaur is a student and lover of truth. Her journeys in the world brought her to meet Kundalini Yoga, Karam Kriya, her German husband and her teacher Shiv Charan Singh in 2001. Living in Berlin for 9 years, Jai Ram had 3 children, practiced and studied, becoming a Karam Kriya numerological consultant and Kundalini Yoga teacher. She has lived back in Perth, Australia with her family since 2009, where the journey has continued. Along with her own inner journey and caring for her family, she serves the community by teaching classes and conducting teacher training courses.
Day 22 - Pauri 22
Sarabjit Kaur Khalsa born in California was sent to Barcelona in 1979 by Yogi Bhajan to help the founders of Kundalini Yoga there. Then in 1988 she was sent to Madrid to found Kundalini Yoga there. She is a lead trainer of level 1 and 2 in the trainer academy. She also serves on the board of 3HO Europe.

Gurutej Singh Khalsa is a yogi, warrior,poet, writer, businessman, healer, and teacher. For 35 years he studied Kundalini Yoga and the teachings of the Sikhs with Yogi Bhajan. Gurutej Singh is a respected and recognized teacher, speaker, healer, and counsellor in his own right and teaches globally. He has published 3 books: Children of the Cusp, a collection of 108 of his personal poems; Rajni, ian historical epic about the powers of love, sacrifice, and the elevation of the soul; and Guru Nanak’s Jap ji, the Call of the Soul a pauri by pauri explanation of Japji Sahib.

I started to learn and practice at the age of 3, from different yogic traditions, and study around 28 years (estimated) as Sikh (student) but this process is infinite. I taught 11 years at miri piri and now few months of year, I travel around the world to share the divine Naad.
We have a small ashram and team of few beautiful teachers right in front of Golden Temple, Amritsar india. Here we invite and receive people around the world and share the ancient techniques of Naad, meditations and moni (silent) pranayama along with JAPu ji and Gurmukhi Naad. Sat Puran is a Kundalini Yoga teacher and trainer from Israel, teaching in teacher's training in Europe and Israel with the Karam Kriya school. She's also a practicing astrologer, consulting and teaching internationally. Sat Puran studied and explored different styles of music, starting with classical western singing from a young age, being an opera singer, and then also continued studying Indian classical singing and Gurbani Kirtan. Her debut Mantra CD Heartbeat was born in September 2016.

Charanpal Singh is a Professional Teacher Trainer (L1), Karam Kriya Consultant and a Mantra Musician from Finland. He is the founding partner of Kehto School, a Spiritual School located in Helsinki area which he runs together with his wife Jagat Prem Kaur. CPS is a former Business Director in the field of Marketing, and he has now practised, taught and trained Kundalini Yoga now for about 15 years. Day 36 - Pauri 35
Sukhdev Kaur Khalsa pioneered to Estonia from her homeland of Mexico in 2004, where she is serving since then by sharing the Teachings of Yogi Bhajan. Since then she establshed the Guru Ram Das Ashram and the Dharamsaal School in Rajamaa, Estonia. In 2016 she was awarded the KRI honours for her service in Estonia. Her passions include gardening and holding L1, L2, 21 stages, Karam Kriya and Women's trainings . As a devoted Sikh, Sukhdev Kaur shares the teachings of Sikh Dharma and the Sikh Gurus across Eastern Europe where these teachings are rather new and unknown.
